For hundreds of years, people have designed and created mechanical machines called automata that move and mimic humans, animals, and plants using wheels, levers, and linkages working in tandem.
This guide features pictures and diagrams for engineering three different storytelling devices to bring scenes to life from two traditional Hmong folktales, Why Farmers Carry Their Crops and Sun and Moon.
For this particular animation, the Hmong story of why the farmers carry their crops is told in both English and Hmong.
Developed by the Science Museum of Minnesota in partnership with Brian Xiong, Yinkong Vue, and Mekala Nava.

This animation was a part of my larger BFA project for Cornish College of the Arts.
For my BFA I developed a fantasy narrative that focused on the concepts of creating representation media of underrepresented groups (i.e. women, LGBTQIA+, people of color). Along with this animated opening title sequence, I created a 70 pages concept art book, and a Dungeons & Dragons campaign based around this narrative.
Role: Creator, Animator, Illustrator
This was a collaboration between Cornish Collage of the Arts and The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. Students were contacted to make a short PSA about how to prevent infection in a clinic setting. Of the three student teams submitted, ours was chosen to be shown on the SCCA's website as well as the monitors in the facility. The SCCA also submitted the video to a national healthcare conference later that year.
